If you have a subscription with Netflix, you know exactly what we mean when we say that Netflix can sometimes be unclear. You probably know it. On an evening where you have planned nothing but quietly watch a movie, you will see exactly no movie, show, or documentaries that arouse your interest. Before you know it, your evening is almost over before you finally find the right film, series or documentary.

List of 24 best documentaries on Netflix

we have scoured Netflix for you to fish the pearls out of the crowd. Today we’re focusing on the documentaries that have been on Netflix for a while and you may have missed. Make sure to see these 23 best documentaries on Netflix. They are more than worth it.

Wild Wild Country (Netflix Original)

During Icarus, you sat with your mouth open in amazement for 121 minutes, at Wild Wild Country you do that for six episodes. This documentary is about the Bachman movement, around Bhagwan Sri Rajneesh (Osho), based on a multitude of spiritual and religious sources and influences.

The movement opposed the existing religious, social, and political order. Some called it a sect. The fact is that the movement quite missed its target and started to take very strange actions. Wild Wild Country tells this story in six parts using real members and prominent figures from the Bachman movement. Including doctors, lawyers, and other high scholars, but also a lot of crazy people.

Sheela (Ma Anand Sheela), remember that name. It is bizarre that this story is only now being told so extensively. One of the best documentaries we’ve seen in this century.

Quincy

We had heard of Quincy Jones, of course. But if we had to call him a number, we wouldn’t really know. And we would not be able to tell you much about the songs, albums, films and other projects he produced and wrote. And that is what makes the documentary so special. From Frank Sinatra to Michael Jackson’s Thriller; this guy is more influential than The Beatles. Netflix tells the rest.

Icarus

Two options. 1: You have already seen Icarus and tell everyone to watch this genius documentary on Netflix as well. 2: you have not yet seen Icarus and everyone tells you to really see it. And rightly so, because the documentary is genius. You sit with your mouth open in surprise for 121 minutes.

From that moment on, the documentary takes a turn and Bryan Fogel gets involved in an extremely large doping scandal. Grigory Rodchenkov is a genius madman, who could come from a series like Fargo. But everything is real. We do not reveal anything else. Absolute must-see!

FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened

It had to be the coolest festival ever. Target group: rich people and beautiful influencers. But the ‘luxury’ Fyre Festival ended in a flop and the laughs were huge. Netflix is releasing a documentary called FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened.

Mercury 13 (Netflix Original)

In 1961, after rigorous testing, a small group of trained female pilots was asked to step aside. Only men were selected for a space flight. The documentary Mercury 13 finally gives the thirteen unsung heroines the credits they deserve for their contribution to space travel.

How The Beatles Changed The World

The Beatles is the most influential pop band ever. Not only musically, but also socially and culturally. The documentary How The Beatles Changed The World shows what the impact of the British band was and still is. Not the first strong music documentary on Netflix.

YouTube player

Take Your Pills (Netflix Orginal)

In a competitive world, a resource like Adderall offers students, athletes, programmers, and others a way to perform better and faster. But at what price? And it really helps. Interesting Netflix Original for anyone with an interest in dubious drugs and drugs.

YouTube player

Dirty Money (Netflix Original)

From strangulation to cars tampered with emissions testing, this six-part documentary series examines shameless examples of corporate greed and corruption. If you still had faith in the world, then after watching the documentary Dirty Money that is gone forever.

YouTube player

AlphaGo

For anyone with an interest in artificial intelligence (AI) and surprising documentaries: AlphaGo is your thing. Go is a complicated board game, for the documentary AlphaGo, it forms the background for the battle between artificial intelligence and humans. Look!

YouTube player

Feminists: What were they thinking?

The new Netflix Original Feminists: What were they thinking? is almost reproachful in terms of title, nothing could be further from the truth. The documentary takes a look at the women’s movement of the 1970s based on the collection of feminist portraits by photographer Cynthia MacAdams.

Forty years later, we look at the culture of then and now. The evolved interpretations of women in society are instructive. In any case, their stories from the past paved the way for our future. This is a must-see for everyone, as there is still much to be gained worldwide. It can be seen on Netflix from 12 October.

YouTube player

Chef’s Table (Netflix Original)

Forget 24 Kitchen. Forget Jamie Oliver. Forget the best chef you know. Chef’s Table is a documentary about the world’s most unique, bizarre, and delicious dishes. Especially to see how the grandmasters from the culinary world come to their dishes (sometimes just by chance) is impressive.

YouTube player

Before the Flood

Leonardo DiCaprio travels the world to research the consequences of human-caused global warming and measures to turn the tide. In Before The Flood he talks with Elon Musk and Barack Obama, among others. If you like climate documentaries you should definitely watch them.

YouTube player

Operation Odessa

Operation Odessa looks like a strong Mafia movie, but it just really happened. Interesting documentary about a gangster from Russia, a spy from Cuba and an underworld figure from Miami. Together they come to the remarkable plan to sell a Soviet submarine as a smuggling item to a drug cartel.

It all starts when the Russian ‘Tarzan’ settles in Miami and meets the smooth-living Juan Boy Almeida, who lives in Miami. Cuban spy Tony eventually completes the cinematic trio. They do not hesitate to go to the infamous Cali cartel. This is one of the best documentaries you will see in 2018.

What Happened, Miss Simone?

Nina Simone was a genius singer. But she was also crazy. At least, that’s what people always thought. Only after a lot of suffering did Nina Simone find out that she had bipolar disorder. What Happened, Miss Simone? gives a beautiful era and shows the dark life of Nina Simone in the purest way.

The Great Hack

This documentary is about the totally unethical, but also brilliant data company Cambridge Analytica. Not only did they help get Trump to his throne, but they also helped in the Brexit referendum.
